Koraput’s Forest-Grown Coffee Reaches the 2026 BRICS Summit

Koraput is a district in Odisha where people grow coffee under existing forest trees.

This kind of coffee is called shade-grown coffee.

The main coffee variety discussed is Arabica, which grows well in cooler, shadier places.

Coffee has been grown in Koraput for nearly 100 years.

In the past, farmers often sent their raw coffee to other states for processing and received limited payment.

The Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd helped create a local brand called Koraput Coffee.

One product, called Tiger Bright, is made from 100% Arabica coffee.

In 2026, 1,500 packets were sent to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit.

This gave Koraput’s coffee a chance to be seen by people from India and other countries.
