Karnataka High Court Convicts Man in Fatal Mysuru Arson Attack
The Karnataka High Court decided that Abdul Sharief was guilty of setting fire to a doctor’s home.
The fire happened in Mysuru in 2013.
Six members of the doctor’s family died.
The prosecution said Sharief and the doctor had a long-running money and personal disagreement.
It said Sharief poured petrol into the house while eight people were sleeping.
A daughter reportedly saw him light a match and throw it toward the house.
He then allegedly escaped on a motorcycle.
A lower court had earlier acquitted him.
The High Court disagreed and sentenced him to life in prison.
The Karnataka High Court overturned a trial court’s acquittal of Abdul Sharief alias Ameer Jan.
Sharief was convicted of murder, attempted murder and arson in the 2013 Mysuru fire.
The blaze killed six members of Dr Mohammed Amir Jaan’s family.
The prosecution said Sharief poured petrol into the house while eight people slept inside.
The court sentenced Sharief to life imprisonment after finding that significant evidence had been ignored or misread.
