Tata Group market cap tripled under Chandrasekaran as shares crash
There is a big company family in India called the Tata Group.
A man named N Chandrasekaran has been the leader, or chairman, of its main company, Tata Sons.
During the time he was in charge, the value of the whole group grew almost three times bigger.
That is like a piggy bank becoming much, much heavier.
He did so well that some Tata companies, like Trent and Titan, grew in value by many times.
But recently, there was a disagreement about whether he should stay as chairman.
In February, Noel Tata, a family member, said he did not want Chandrasekaran to be reappointed.
Then in August, Chandrasekaran said he would not ask for the job again after his term ends in February 2027.
When people heard this news, the value of Tata shares fell a lot in one day.
The shares lost about Rs 47,412 crore in just a single day.
That is why the group's stock prices crashed after the announcement.
Tata Group's market capitalisation rose nearly three times during N Chandrasekaran's tenure as Tata Sons Chairman.
Three firms contributed nearly three-fourths (Rs 11 lakh crore) of the total Rs 15 lakh crore market cap gain.
Chandrasekaran tendered his resignation on August 12 and will not seek reappointment after his term ends in February 2027.
Tata Group shares suffered a Rs 47,412-crore single-day hit following the announcement of his decision.
Noel Tata opposed the reappointment move in February, and Tata Sons had postponed its decision months earlier.
