Prayagraj police registered FIRs against 39 advocates over the past three days for allegedly obtaining enrolment and Certificates of Practice (COP) using forged LLB marksheets.
RK Shukla, secretary of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, lodged a complaint against 105 advocates suspected of practising law with fake marksheets.
The Allahabad High Court, in an order passed on June 3, 2026, directed that FIRs be lodged against Bar Council-registered advocates whose degrees were found fake during verification.
An FIR against advocate Deepak Kashyap of Saharanpur was registered on Friday after Sridhar University in Pilani, Rajasthan, reported his marksheet photocopy as fake.
FIRs against the remaining advocates will be filed in the next day or two, after which the investigation will begin, with charges including cheating and forgery under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
