Allahabad High Court Rejects Second Bail Pleas in Murder Case
The Allahabad High Court has refused to release three men on bail while their appeals continue.
They are serving life sentences for the 1996 killing of MLA Jawahar Yadav.
The men said they had been in prison for a long time and their appeals had not been heard for more than two years.
The court said it had urged their lawyers to argue the appeals since May 2023.
But, according to the court, the defence repeatedly asked to delay those arguments and instead sought temporary release.
The judges said the seriousness of the crime also mattered.
For those reasons, the men could not get bail just because they had spent a long time in prison.
A fourth man serving a life sentence did not file a second bail application because his sentence had recently been reduced by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Allahabad High Court rejected second bail applications from Kapil Muni Karwariya, Surya Bhan Karwariya and Ramchandra Tripathi.
The three are serving life sentences for the 1996 murder of Samajwadi Party MLA Jawahar Yadav.
The court had rejected their earlier bail applications on May 9, 2023.
The applicants cited prolonged incarceration and appeals that had remained unheard for more than two years.
The bench said repeated requests for adjournments and the gravity of the offence meant they could not obtain bail solely based on time served.
