Punjab Bandh Closes Private Schools; Panjab University Postpones Exams
Private schools in Punjab will be closed on August 21 because a group has called for a bandh, or shutdown.
The shutdown is planned from 7 a.m.
until 2 p.m.
The group wants certain Sikh prisoners, called “Bandi Singhs,” to be released.
Schools are closing so students do not have to travel during possible transport disruptions.
Panjab University has also changed its exam schedule.
Some exams planned for August 21 will now take place on September 10.
Medical emergencies will still be allowed.
