Telangana Employees Demand Old Pension Scheme Restoration and Pay Action
Government employees and pensioners in Telangana held protests about their retirement benefits and pay.
They wore black badges and demonstrated during their lunch break.
The protests took place in Warangal and Mahabubabad on September 1.
This day was called “Pension Betrayal Day” by the employee groups.
The unions want the Contributory Pension Scheme stopped.
They want the Old Pension Scheme brought back because they say it gives workers more retirement security.
They also want a new Pay Revision Commission and delayed allowances to be provided.
In Warangal, they additionally asked for health benefits and payment of overdue bills.
The unions said they may organize larger protests if the government does not respond.

The Telangana Employees Joint Action Committee demanded abolition of the Contributory Pension Scheme and restoration of the Old Pension Scheme.
Unions called for immediate implementation of the Second Pay Revision Commission and release of pending Dearness Allowance instalments.
The Warangal protest also sought implementation of the Employees’ Health Scheme and clearance of pending bills and arrears.
Leaders warned of intensified agitation and announced a planned “Chalo Hyderabad” programme at Indira Park on September 10.
