Uttarakhand Schools Closed, High Alert Amid Heavy Rain Forecast
A place in India called Uttarakhand is expecting a lot of heavy rain and thunder storms.
The people who watch the weather said the rain could be very strong.
The leader of the state, Pushkar Singh Dhami, told everyone to be very careful.
To keep children safe, all schools were closed for the day.
Even the little daycare centers, called Anganwadi centers, were closed.
Rescue teams called SDRF and NDRF are ready to help people if there is an emergency.
The water in a river near a famous temple in Dehradun is going up.
People who live there and people visiting were told not to travel unless they really need to.
They were also told to stay away from rivers and streams.
Everyone is being careful so that nobody gets hurt.
All government and private schools (Classes 1-12) and Anganwadi centres in the district were closed on Wednesday as a one-day holiday following the IMD's heavy rain forecast.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami placed all departments on high alert and directed the SDRF and NDRF to stay prepared for round-the-clock relief and rescue operations.
The IMD issued orange alerts for Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi according to one report, while another report lists orange alerts for Dehradun, Chamoli and Bageshwar with a yellow alert for the rest of the state on Thursday.
Schools up to Class 12 will remain closed in Chamoli and Bageshwar districts on Thursday in view of the heavy rain warning.
The Tamsa River near the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Dehradun has been rising since Tuesday night, and residents and tourists were advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
