Two-Day Rain Boosts Water Levels In Karimnagar Irrigation Projects
Rain fell for two days in a part of India.
This rain filled up big water reservoirs, which are like giant bathtubs for water.
The area had not gotten much rain for a long time because of a weather pattern called El Nino.
Farmers use the water in these reservoirs to water their crops.
One reservoir, called Yellampally, is almost full.
Another one, Mid Manair, has more than three-quarters of its water.
The extra water is being sent to a dam called Lower Manair Dam.
That dam now has more water than it did a few days ago.
A smaller reservoir called Upper Manair is so full that water is spilling over the top.
This is good news because the region really needs water for farming and irrigation.
Two days of rain brought substantial inflows to major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Karimnagar district after a rainfall deficit attributed to El Nino.
Yellampally project is receiving around 13,000 cusecs and holds about 18 tmc ft of water against its capacity of 20.175 tmc ft.
Mid Manair reservoir storage rose to 21.334 tmc ft, with inflows of 15,411 cusecs, including 12,600 cusecs from the Gayatri pump house.
Officials opened three flood gates to release around 5,000 cusecs from Mid Manair into Lower Manair Dam, whose storage rose to 6.5 tmc ft.
Upper Manair reservoir, near Narmala in Rajanna Sircilla district, is overflowing at its capacity of around 2 tmc ft.
