Doctors Remove 15 Bile Duct Stones From Pregnant Woman
A pregnant woman had many small stones blocking a tube that carries bile from the liver.
The blockage caused pain, fever, vomiting and yellowing of the skin and eyes.
Doctors found that she also had an infection.
They used a procedure called ERCP to reach the blocked tube and remove the stones.
Because she was pregnant, they carefully reduced the amount of X-ray radiation used.
They removed 15 stones and placed a small stent to help the tube stay open.
The procedure took about 15 minutes.
Her pain went away, and later tests showed that she was recovering normally.

The patient was admitted on July 25 with severe abdominal pain, vomiting, fever and obstructive jaundice caused by an infection and blocked common bile duct.
Doctors performed a 15-minute ERCP using protective lead shielding and limited imaging to one controlled X-ray exposure.
The 7–8 mm stones were removed and a stent was placed in the bile duct; her abdominal pain subsided afterward.
Seven days later, her blood count and liver function tests were normal, and she was discharged two days after the procedure.
