Surat Names Rajkumar Beniwal Commissioner After Controversial Nasir Nagar Demolitions
Surat has a new municipal commissioner named Rajkumar Beniwal.
The Gujarat government announced his appointment on Saturday.
The job had been empty since the previous commissioner, M Nagarajan, was transferred.
Beniwal is an IAS officer from the 2004 batch.
Before this, he led Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd in Bharuch.
He is also responsible for coordinating development projects in Vadnagar.
Vadnagar is described as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown.
The previous commissioner had faced controversy after demolitions in Nasir Nagar on May 30.
The Gujarat government appointed 2004-batch IAS officer Rajkumar Beniwal as Surat municipal commissioner on Saturday.
The commissioner’s post had been vacant since August 11, following M Nagarajan’s transfer.
Beniwal was transferred from Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd in Bharuch.
He had been the company’s managing director before the new appointment.
Beniwal also serves as nodal officer for development projects in Vadnagar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown.
