Delhi Clears Kirari Drain Project to Tackle Monsoon Waterlogging
Kirari often gets flooded when heavy rain falls during the monsoon.
Delhi has approved a project to build a new drain beside the railway tracks.
It will begin near Mundka Halt railway station and connect to the Supplementary Drain.
The channel is designed to carry 760 cusecs of water.
Officials expect construction to finish by December 2027.
They say the drain should carry rainwater away from places where it collects.
The project is expected to help areas in Kirari, Mundka, Bawana and Nangloi Jat, including 70 unauthorised colonies in Kirari.
It is also intended to benefit several named neighbourhoods and Nilothi village.
Delhi’s Expenditure Finance Committee approved a Rs 263.45-crore Kirari drainage project.
The plan includes an approximately 4.5-kilometre drain alongside railway tracks.
The drain is expected to be completed by December 2027 and designed for 760 cusecs.
