BJP's Ashoka Accuses Karnataka Government of Secretly Releasing Cauvery Water

There is a big river in southern India called the Cauvery river, and two states, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, share its water.

The Karnataka government said it would not send any of the river's water to Tamil Nadu while there is not enough for its own people.

But an opposition leader named R. Ashoka says the government is secretly opening the gates of a big reservoir called the Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS) at night and letting water flow to Tamil Nadu.

He says farmers in places like Mandya and Mysuru are watching their crops dry up and that people do not even have enough drinking water.

Ashoka asked the government to stop the water release right away and warned that his party, the BJP, will hold protests across the state.

A special water committee had recently told Karnataka to send a certain amount of river water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days, but Karnataka says it does not have enough and will ask the Supreme Court to decide.

So far, the government has not officially confirmed or denied the water release.

Ashoka also says the government is pushing people to buy more alcohol so it can collect more tax money.

He thinks the government should worry about farmers and families instead of filling its money box.

Everyone is waiting to see what the government and the court decide.
