Tripura Ready to Implement Uniform Civil Code if Centre Directs
Tripura’s Chief Minister Manik Saha said the state is ready to introduce the Uniform Civil Code if the central government tells it to do so.
The UCC would create the same legal rules for people of different religions in areas such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and live-in relationships.
Saha said the rules might not apply in Tripura’s tribal areas.
His comments came after Home Minister Amit Shah said governments led by the National Democratic Alliance in 21 states would introduce the UCC before 2029.
Tripura is also planning a month-long programme about Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service.
The programme will start on September 17.
Because elections are taking place for village committees, most activities will begin after polling ends on September 28.
The programme will gain pace from September 29.
Ministers, lawmakers and other public representatives will take part.
