Chandigarh Erupts as Qaumi Insaaf Morcha Marches on Independence Day

On Independence Day, many people took part in a march called the Qaumi Insaaf Morcha in the city of Chandigarh.

The police did not want the marchers to keep going, so they moved to stop them.

The situation became tense and worrying.

Police used water cannons, which spray strong jets of water, and tear gas, which makes eyes sting and water, to break up the crowd.

Some marchers threw stones at the police officers.

Videos show some people using sticks to hit the barricades that the Punjab police had set up.

Because of the clash, the march could not continue the way the protesters wanted.

Even on Independence Day, the city of Chandigarh grew tense as police and protesters faced each other.
