Mild Tremors Shake Nashik as Four Seismometer Stations Operate
People in parts of Nashik felt two small earthquakes on Friday and Saturday.
One measured 2.8, and the other measured 2.4.
They happened several kilometres underground, and no damage was reported.
Nashik has had many small earthquakes before, with 64 recorded in July and August.
Scientists said these tremors can naturally release pressure underground.
They said there was no reason for major concern.
Seismometers at four locations monitor ground movements all day and night.
Tremors measuring 2.8 and 2.4 were felt in Surgana and Peth talukas on Friday and Saturday.
The tremors occurred at focal depths of 6 km and 5 km, respectively; no damage was reported.
Four locations now have operating seismometers: MERI Institute, Haranbari school, and the Surgana and Malegaon tehsil offices.
Nashik recorded 64 earthquakes measuring 1.6 to 4.3 during July and August.
Visiting seismology scientists said the tremors were a natural release of underground pressure and there was no cause for major concern.
