Nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs recalled over Salmonella contamination
Some eggs in the United States might have tiny germs called Salmonella on them that can make people sick.
Because of this, a company called Midwest Poultry Services is taking back lots of eggs.
They are recalling almost 1.6 million dozen eggs, which is a really big number of eggs.
The eggs came from farms in Texas and were sent to stores in several states.
Getting Salmonella can give you a tummy ache, a fever, and make you feel very unwell.
So far, 98 people have gotten sick, and 26 of them needed to stay in the hospital.
If you have eggs at home, check the code on the side of the carton.
If they are part of the recall, do not eat them; throw them away or take them back to the store.
Wash your hands and clean your kitchen so the germs do not spread.
Midwest Poultry Services recalled nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs (1,589,577 dozen) over potential Salmonella Enteritidis contamination.
The FDA and CDC are investigating a multistate outbreak that has infected 98 people across 17 states, with 26 hospitalizations and no reported deaths.
The recalled eggs were produced at Texas farms between June 6 and July 3, with sell-by or best-by dates from July 20 to August 7, 2026.
Affected cartons can be identified by codes P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian dates 157 to 184, sold under brands including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire's, Country Morning and Sunups.
The FDA advises consumers to throw away or return recalled eggs and to clean surfaces, utensils and hands to prevent cross-contamination.
