Coal India Raises First-Half Supplies 7.6% as Power Deliveries Grow
Coal India sent more coal to customers in the first half of FY27 than it did a year earlier.
It delivered 384.2 million tonnes in total.
Power plants received 302.8 million tonnes, making them the biggest group of customers.
The company also used 63 million tonnes of coal stored at its mine sites.
Better transport and coordination helped move the coal.
Supplies grew faster in the second quarter than during the first half overall.
Electricity made from domestic coal also increased.
The coal ministry says the next goal is to make supplies reliable, predictable and good quality.
Coal India’s total coal offtake rose 7.6% year-on-year to 384.2 million tonnes in April-September FY27.
Supplies to the power sector increased 6.1% to 302.8 million tonnes, nearly 79% of first-half offtake.
Coal India drew down 63 million tonnes of pithead stocks while improving evacuation and coordinating production with despatches.
In Q2, total offtake grew 12.05% to 186.04 million tonnes, while power-sector supplies rose 11% to 148.20 million tonnes.
Domestic coal-based electricity generation increased 9.9% to 640.05 billion units during the first half.
