Iranian President Pezeshkian Expected to Visit India for BRICS Summit
The president of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, will probably travel to India in September.
He is going to a big meeting called the BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
BRICS is a group of countries that talk about trade, peace and working together.
India is the leader of the group this year, after taking over from Brazil.
India's prime minister, Narendra Modi, invited the Iranian president during a phone call in June 2026.
At the meeting, leaders may talk about keeping peace in West Asia and keeping the Strait of Hormuz safe for ships.
The Strait of Hormuz is a waterway that many countries use to get energy.
India and Iran also want to work together on Chabahar Port, which helps connect India to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
The two presidents met before at the 2024 BRICS Summit in Russia.
The visit is not officially confirmed yet, so plans could still change.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is expected to visit New Delhi around September 12–13 for the 18th BRICS Summit hosted by India.
PM Narendra Modi formally invited Pezeshkian during a June 30, 2026 telephone call, according to the Iranian readout.
The summit, held under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', is India's first as 2026 BRICS chair.
Expected topics include West Asia tensions, freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, energy security, trade and Chabahar Port cooperation.
Iran joined BRICS as a full member in 2024 with Egypt, Ethiopia and the UAE; Indonesia joined in 2025, bringing full membership to 11.
