The Communist Party of India says it will take part in upcoming local elections.

It plans to work out seat-sharing arrangements with parties that are not part of the NDA in places where the CPI is strong.

CPI leader Jangala Ajay Kumar said many votes had been deleted during a process called SIR.

He also claimed that more votes could be deleted in Andhra Pradesh.

The CPI and others are protesting and want the Chief Election Commissioner to resign and the process to be withdrawn.

Ajay Kumar also said promised monthly payments for women and unemployed young people had not been provided.

The CPI called for a Chalo Assembly programme on October 26 to press for those payments.
