Biocon's Yesafili for retinal diseases receives public funding in Ontario
Biocon Biologics has announced that their medicine Yesafili, which helps with eye problems, will now be paid for by the government in Ontario, Canada.
Yesafili is similar to another medicine called Eylea.
This means people with eye conditions like macular degeneration will find it easier to get the medicine.
This change will make the treatment more affordable and save money for the healthcare system.
Studies have shown that Yesafili works just as well as Eylea.
The medication is given in a specific dose and will be available in both vials and prefilled syringes.
Yesafili is the first of its kind approved by Health Canada.
Biocon Biologics Ltd's Yesafili is now publicly funded in Ontario.
Yesafili is a biosimilar to Eylea, used to treat retinal diseases.
The funding covers both vial and prefilled syringe presentations.
It's approved for conditions like wet AMD and diabetic macular oedema.
Ontario is the first Canadian province to publicly fund this biosimilar.
