Agra Police Bust Pan-India Matrimonial Cyber Fraud Call Centre
Police say a group in Agra pretended to run a marriage-matching service.
They allegedly showed men photographs of women who were not real matches.
Female callers also pretended to be prospective brides during phone calls.
The callers asked victims to pay money for registration and other services.
Each victim was allegedly charged no more than Rs 15,000, which police believe may have discouraged complaints.
Police arrested a lawyer, a woman listed as the firm’s owner and eight callers.
The lawyer says he was only providing legal help, but police say digital evidence connects him to the operation.
Investigators are checking phones, chats and bank records to find more victims and measure the alleged fraud.
