Kerala High Court Forms SIT to Probe Sabarimala Ghee Scam

There is a famous temple in Kerala called Sabarimala where many people go to pray.

The people who manage the temple belong to a board called the Travancore Devaswom Board, and they buy a special food called ghee for the temple.

Investigators say the board bought lots of ghee from a company called Milma for Rs 510 per litre.

Another company from Tamil Nadu had offered to sell the same ghee for much less, only Rs 372 per litre.

Because the board paid so much more, the temple may have lost nearly Rs 3 crore, which is a very large amount of money.

The Kerala High Court decided to form a special team of six investigators to find out exactly what happened.

That team will register a formal case and report what they learn back to the court.

Some former leaders of the board, including its former president, may be in trouble because of this.

The investigators will also check whether the ghee was good quality and whether the right amount was delivered.

There is also a separate case about more than 30,000 ghee packets that reportedly went missing.
