Centre Auctions Two Limestone Blocks in Jammu and Kashmir
The government has auctioned two limestone areas in Jammu and Kashmir.
This is the first time these blocks have been auctioned through the Central Government’s mineral auction process.
One block is called Koot–Kapran, and the other is called Wantrag.
Officials estimate that both areas contain limestone, a rock used in different industries.
The blocks have been explored, but more detailed work and development may still be possible.
The government hopes companies will invest in developing them.
It also expects the projects to create jobs and bring work to local businesses and service providers.
Two limestone blocks in Jammu and Kashmir were auctioned through the Central Government’s mineral auction process for the first time.
The Koot–Kapran block spans 22.43 hectares in Koot and Kapran villages, Dooru Tehsil, Anantnag district.
Koot–Kapran is estimated to contain 4.75 million tonnes of limestone and has been explored to the G-4 stage.
The Wantrag block covers 5.36 hectares and is estimated to contain 10.853 million tonnes; its exploration reached G-3 and included 159 metres of drilling.
The government says the auctions could attract investment, support economic activity, create jobs and open opportunities for local businesses.
