Rupee Falls 20 Paise Against Dollar Amid Oil, Outflows
The Indian rupee became slightly weaker against the US dollar on Monday.
It fell by 20 paise to 95.95 rupees per dollar.
The US dollar was stronger, which made it harder for the rupee to gain value.
Oil prices also rose above $106 per barrel.
India imports oil, so more expensive oil can increase the country’s need for dollars.
Foreign investors also sold Indian shares, adding to pressure on the rupee.
An analyst expected the rupee to remain between 95.50 and 96.00.
The analyst said the Reserve Bank of India may help prevent the rupee from weakening beyond 96.00.
The rupee fell 20 paise to 95.95 against the US dollar in early Monday trade.
