BK Birla College Holds Thalassemia Camp, Over 225 Students Screened
Thalassemia is a blood disease that children can inherit from their parents.
A college in Kalyan called B.K. Birla College held a special camp to teach students about this disease.
The camp was organized together with the Rotary Club of Dombivli Diamonds.
More than 225 students took tests to check for the disease.
Doctors at the camp said people should get tested before getting married.
This helps reduce the number of babies born with the disease.
Students also watched a video that explained what causes thalassemia and how to prevent it.
The college hopes students will share what they learned with their families and communities.
The camp was part of an annual effort to encourage early diagnosis and healthy choices.
Over 225 students underwent thalassemia screening at a day-long camp at B.K. Birla College, Kalyan, on Tuesday.
The camp was organized by the college's Department of Microbiology in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Dombivli Diamonds.
Medical experts stressed that premarital screening plays a vital role in identifying carriers and reducing the risk of children being born with the disorder.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr Vandana Dhaktode, Project Chairperson, who attended as chief guest.
The Rotary Club screened an educational video covering the causes, symptoms, inheritance pattern, and preventive measures of thalassemia.
