Arunachal Pradesh Scraps 80:20 Job Quota, Sets New Eligibility Rules
Arunachal Pradesh is a state in India.
The people who lead the state made new rules for getting a government job.
Before, there was a rule from 1991 that gave 80 out of every 100 government jobs to people from the state's tribal groups.
The other 20 jobs were open to everyone else.
Now that old rule is gone.
Instead, everyone who wants a government job must have a special certificate called a PRC, must belong to the state's Scheduled Tribe groups, and must be able to speak at least one local tribal language.
The leaders say this is important because people serving the state should be able to talk with local people.
The new rules start right away and cover many different kinds of government jobs.
Different boards in the state have been told to use the new rules when they hire people.
Arunachal Pradesh has scrapped the 80:20 reservation arrangement for direct recruitment to state government posts.
The 80:20 rule, in place since 1991, reserved 80% of state jobs for Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) candidates and 20% for other eligible candidates.
New uniform eligibility requires candidates to hold a Permanent Residence Certificate (PRC), APST status, and proficiency in at least one indigenous tribal language.
The cabinet directed the APPSC and APSSB to incorporate the new eligibility clauses into future recruitment advertisements and rules.
A post-joining language test mechanism will be part of the recruitment framework, with provisions effective immediately for Group A, B and C posts.
