Shastri Bhawan, Krishi Bhawan Set for Central Vista Construction
The government plans to build two new office buildings called Kartavya Bhawan 4 and 5.
They will be built where Shastri Bhawan and Krishi Bhawan currently stand.
The Central Public Works Department has asked that the old buildings be emptied by September 30.
This will let the construction agency take control of the site.
Several government ministries and departments work in the two complexes.
Those offices will need to move elsewhere.
The project is expected to cost about ₹3,155 crore.
Construction is planned to take 24 months and is part of the Central Vista redevelopment plan.
The Central Public Works Department asked authorities to vacate Shastri Bhawan and Krishi Bhawan by September 30.
The two complexes occupy the proposed footprint of Kartavya Bhawan 4 and 5 on Dr Rajendra Prasad Road, New Delhi.
The construction tender has been awarded, allowing the executing agency to take possession after the buildings are handed over.
The project is estimated to cost ₹3,155 crore, including five years of operation and maintenance, with construction planned for 24 months.
Ministries and departments currently housed in the complexes must relocate before construction can begin.
