India May Extend Aluminium Anti-Dumping Duties For Five Years
India is considering keeping extra taxes on some imported aluminium products.
The trade-remedies authority recommended extending these taxes for five more years.
One recommendation covers certain flat-rolled aluminium products from China.
Another covers very thin aluminium foil from China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.
Officials said cheap imports could hurt Indian aluminium makers if the taxes end.
They also pointed to large production capacity in China and possible changes in other export markets.
Indian producers have expanded and begun making more specialized products while the duties were in place.
The recommendations are not final until the government formally approves and notifies them.
India’s Directorate General of Trade Remedies recommended five-year duty extensions on selected aluminium imports.

Most Chinese flat-rolled aluminium suppliers could face a proposed duty of $449 per tonne.
Proposed foil duties range from $93.53 to $976.99 per tonne, depending on the exporting country and supplier.
The recommendations require formal notification by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs.
