Maharashtra Revises Heavy Vehicle Curbs On Mumbai-Goa Highway
The Maharashtra government changed traffic rules for the Ganesh festival.
Very large vehicles will normally be stopped on the Mumbai-Goa highway for 39 hours.
The stoppage begins on September 19 and ends late on September 20.
This is meant to reduce traffic jams as many devotees travel to Konkan.

Vehicles with a weight capacity of 16 tonnes or more will be barred from National Highway 66 from 8 a.m. on September 19 until 11 p.m. on September 20.
The restriction covers trucks, multi-axle vehicles, trailers, lorries and other heavy or extra-heavy vehicles.
Navi Mumbai’s police commissioner and concerned district police chiefs may relax the restrictions according to traffic conditions and devotee movement.
Authorities must consider both Ganesh devotees travelling to Konkan and traffic conditions when deciding whether to ease the curbs.
Officials have been directed to keep import and export cargo moving smoothly through JNPT during the festival period.
