NBA Disburses 8.22 Crore for Rice ABS in India
The National Biodiversity Authority in India gave a big money gift of 8.22 crore rupees to help scientists and state groups keep rice varieties safe.
The money came from a company that makes seeds, Pioneer Overseas Corporation, which used Indian rice to create new hybrids.
The biggest chunk went to the Indian Institute of Rice Research in Hyderabad.
The state of Uttar Pradesh got the most money of any state.
The money will help keep rice seeds, teach farmers, and protect the natural variety of rice in India.
NBA released Rs 8.22 crore to research institutions and 33 state biodiversity boards.
Funds came from Pioneer Overseas Corporation for using Indian rice varieties in hybrid development.
This is one of the largest single ABS disbursements for rice in India.
ICAR–Indian Institute of Rice Research received Rs 2.43 crore, the largest share.
Uttar Pradesh received the highest state share of Rs 73 lakh.
