Karnataka did not receive enough rain during the monsoon season.

The state got 465 millimetres of rain instead of the usual 666 millimetres.

Because of this, many crops dried up and farmers planted less land than planned.

Some fruits and vegetables, including chilli, onion and tomato, were badly affected.

Water underground also fell in many areas.

Officials checked 134 possible drought-hit taluks and found that 101 met the required conditions.

Among them, 89 were judged severely affected and 12 moderately affected.

The government said it would work to provide drinking water, fodder and employment support.
