Rare Pushya Kshaya Masa Expected in 2028–2029

The Indian calendar follows both the Sun and the Moon.

Usually, the Moon’s months and the Sun’s seasons need occasional adjustments to stay aligned.

Sometimes an extra month, called Adhika Masa, is added.

Much more rarely, a month is not given its own separate place, and this is called Kshaya Masa.

In the expected 2028–2029 event, the month called Pushya will merge with nearby lunar phases.

This happens because the Sun crosses two zodiac boundaries between two new moons.

The change is expected to begin around December 2028 and continue into January 2029.

Another extra month, Adhika Chaitra, is expected in March and April 2029.
