A group of 49 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu went on a Kailash pilgrimage.

Afterward, the operator said the group could not be contacted or traced.

He said some people seen escaping in videos may have been members of his group.

He also said some pilgrims might have survived.

The company gave information to state officials and asked the Indian government to seek help from China.

A separate group of 43 pilgrims from Maharashtra survived and returned to Mumbai after being stranded nearby.
