Six Killed in Houthi Attack as Middle East Conflict Escalates
In one part of the world, called the Middle East, there is a lot of fighting right now.
A group called the Houthis, who are fighting in the country of Yemen, shot missiles at a ship in the sea, and sadly six people died.
The Houthis and the Yemeni government have been fighting for a long time, and the attack happened in a narrow sea passage called the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
In another part of the sea, the United States is trying to stop ships from going to the country of Iran.
When one ship tried to get past, American forces shot at the ship so it had to stop.
The American president said the United States controls the important waterway called the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has closed that waterway after being attacked by Israel and the United States, and that worries people because ships carry oil through it.
At the United Nations, some countries said Israel was not doing enough to protect people in the West Bank.
Israel's ambassador said his country condemns all violence and that others were ignoring attacks by Palestinians.
Everyone is hoping the fighting will stop so that ships can travel safely and people can live in peace.
Yemeni authorities said six people — four crew members and two members of the government-allied National Resistance Forces — died when Iran-backed Houthi rebels hit a commercial vessel with three ballistic missiles in the Bab el-Mandeb strait.
It is the first known death from Houthi attacks on shipping off Yemen in the latest bout of fighting, which has also included strikes on the port city of Mokha that killed dozens since last week.
US forces fired missiles into the engine room of the Panamanian-flagged M/V Vela Nova in the Gulf of Oman after it ignored warnings and tried to evade the American blockade of Iranian ports.
President Donald Trump insisted the US has "total control" over the Strait of Hormuz, while US Central Command said it has redirected 55 commercial vessels, disabled three non-compliant ships and boarded two.
Five European nations called a UN Security Council meeting where Britain's ambassador called West Bank settler attacks "appalling," while Israel's envoy said the council was ignoring rising attacks by Palestinians.
