Police Warn Of Fraud In Viral Garba Partner Ads
Some social media posts offered people a partner to attend garba celebrations with them.
The offers were advertised in Ahmedabad before Navratri.
They listed different prices depending on how long the partner would stay.
Some posts also promised outfits, lessons, selfies and reels.
Police said people should not quickly trust these advertisements.
Sending money to unknown accounts could lead to financial loss.
Some of the posts appeared to be made using artificial intelligence.
Anyone who has already paid should contact the cyber police.
Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Cell warned people against sending money to unknown profiles advertising “Rent A Garba Partner” services.
The posts offered Silver, Gold and Platinum packages priced at Rs 1,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 respectively.
Packages reportedly included options such as matching outfits, garba lessons, selfies and reels.
ACP Hardik Mandakia said police had tracked the posts for five to six days, including some that appeared AI-generated.
People who have already transferred money were advised to contact cyber police for assistance.
