India's 2025 Tea Production and Exports Expected to Surpass 2024
India is making more tea this year and sending more of it to other countries.
Last year, India made about 1284.78 million kilograms of tea.
This year, by October, they had already made 1133.41 million kilograms, which is a little more than last year.
The tea industry thinks the total production for this year will be around 1342 million kilograms, which is about 38 million kilograms more than last year.
This increase is because they are picking tea leaves for a longer time this year.
Also, India is sending more tea to countries like Iran, Iraq, and China.
Last year, they sent 256.17 million kilograms of tea to other countries.
This year, by October, they had already sent 228.52 million kilograms, which is more than the same time last year.
The industry thinks they will send about 15-20 million kilograms more tea this year compared to last year.
India's tea production in 2025 is projected to reach 1342 million kgs, a 3% increase from 2024.
Tea exports in 2025 are expected to be 15-20 million kgs higher than in 2024, driven by increased shipments to Iran, Iraq, and China.
The increase in production is attributed to an extended plucking season in December 2025, unlike 2024 when plucking ended in November.
As of October 2025, India had produced 1133.41 million kgs of tea, an 8 million kg increase compared to the same period in 2024.
India exported 228.52 million kgs of tea by October 2025, compared to 214.64 million kgs in the same period of 2024.

Quotes
Hemant Bangur
Chairman of the Indian Tea Association
“I think tea production for this year will be marginally higher compared to last year. Last year, we closed plucking of tea leaves in the gardens from December 1. This year we are operating in the whole of December. So, we can expect that this year’s production would be around 20-25 million kgs higher than last year.”

“Until October, export was quite good. Beyond October also the trend has not been bad. So, I think we should have higher export numbers compared to 2024.”

“The export situation is good. We should end this year by 15-20 million kgs more than last year. It is mainly due to higher shipments to Iran, Iraq and China.”
