Government Approves Relief in 1,223 Sanitation Worker Death Cases

The government commission that helps sanitation workers has approved compensation in 1,223 reported death cases.

These deaths happened while people were working in sewers or septic tanks.

There were 1,377 cases reported in total.

The commission also handles more than 1,200 complaints each year.

Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said dangerous manual cleaning should end.

He said machines should be used whenever they can do the work safely.

Workers should receive training, protective equipment and social-security support.

Families affected by deaths should receive help and compensation quickly.

The government’s goal is zero hazardous manual entries and zero sewer and septic-tank deaths.
