Telangana Ends August With 38% Rainfall Deficit, Data Shows
Telangana did not get as much rain as usual in August.
It received 134.5 millimetres instead of the normal 215.8 millimetres.
This created a 38 per cent rainfall deficit for the month.
Rainfall came in short spells, with dry periods in between.
June was 12 per cent below normal, while July was almost normal.
From June through August, the state received 17 per cent less rain than usual.
Even so, the overall monsoon rainfall was still classified as normal.
Different districts experienced different amounts of rainfall shortage.
Hanamkonda had the largest cumulative deficit among the districts listed.
Telangana received 134.5 mm of rain in August, compared with a normal 215.8 mm.
August’s rainfall deficit widened and narrowed during the month before ending at 38 per cent.
Cumulative rainfall from June 1 to August 31 was 473.8 mm, 17 per cent below the normal 573.5 mm.
Despite the seasonal shortfall, Telangana’s overall monsoon status remained in the normal category.
Hanamkonda recorded the highest cumulative deficit at 45 per cent, followed by Warangal at 44 per cent and Jangaon at 42 per cent.
