CJP Leaders Detained From Flight Ahead of Delhi Protest
'Even Indira Gandhi didn't do this': Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka detained from inside their flight | Watch video · wionews.com

Three leaders from the Cockroach Janta Party flew from Mumbai to Delhi for a planned protest.

After their plane landed, police approached them inside the aircraft and detained them before they got off.

The protest was about the party’s concerns over Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and changes to voter lists.

The party said the detentions were unfair and demanded the leaders’ release.

Police had refused permission for the protest, saying the application came too late and rules had been broken at an earlier demonstration.

News reports also described many other detentions and restrictions in Delhi that day.

The video shows the encounter, but one report said it did not independently establish all the circumstances of the detention.

Quotes

Delhi Police personnel

Police officers who detained Dipke and other CJP leaders on the plane.

“So, you can see that Delhi Police is entering the plane to arrest us. They are all entering the plane. We just landed. All the Delhi Police officers are standing in the aisle. They are trying to arrest us from inside the plane. The entire Delhi Police is getting on the plane...This is the fear of Narendra Modi...Not even Indira Gandhi did this during the Emergency. All we wanted to do is a peaceful protest, and they are picking us up from the flight like we are criminals.”

“This pre-planned interception by the Delhi Police aims to cripple the leadership of today's peaceful demonstrations before they even reach the protest site. The CJP denounces this blatant violation of freedom of movement and demands the immediate, unconditional release of Dipke, Das, and Ranka.”
