Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India hopes to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

He said big sports events in India could give young athletes more chances to compete and better support.

India is also preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

India has told the International Olympic Committee that it is interested in hosting the Olympics.

Six other parties are also in talks about hosting the Games.

The committee is expected to narrow the list by March 2027.

Its members are scheduled to choose the host in mid-2029.

Modi made his comments at a school celebration in Chennai.
