Goa Records Largest Monsoon Rainfall Deficit Since 1980
Goa received much less rain than usual during the 2026 monsoon season.
The state got about 2,055 millimetres of rain instead of the normal 3,008 millimetres.
This means rainfall was about 31.7 per cent lower than average.
Every month from June through September had less rain than normal.
September had the biggest shortage, at 44 per cent.
North Goa was drier than South Goa compared with their usual rainfall levels.
Rainfall also varied a lot between different places in the state.
The India Meteorological Department said this was Goa’s largest seasonal rainfall deficit since 1980.
Goa received 2,055.4 mm of rain from June 1 to September 30, against a normal 3,007.8 mm.
The seasonal rainfall deficit was 31.7 per cent, or nearly 952 mm below normal.
Rainfall was below normal in every monsoon month, with September recording the highest deficit at 44 per cent.
North Goa recorded a 36.8 per cent deficit, while South Goa had a 26.9 per cent shortfall.
The IMD said this was Goa’s largest negative seasonal rainfall departure during the 1980-2026 period.
