Bengal industrial policy: government seeks industry views on approvals
The government of West Bengal is making a new plan to help businesses grow in the state.
The minister in charge of industry, Tapas Roy, wants to hear what business people think about the plan.
He invited them to a meeting at Nabanna, the main government building, on August 11.
The plan aims to make it faster and easier for companies to get approvals for their projects.
It also wants to bring back special benefits, called incentives, for industries.
The government will help companies use empty land in industrial parks that was not being used.
West Bengal also wants to sell more goods to other countries by using trade agreements India has signed.
The finance minister, Swapan Dasgupta, says government workers who check accounts and taxes need new training.
That training has not happened since Covid, and he wants it to start again.
So the state is working to make business easier and improve how its own officials work.
West Bengal industry minister Tapas Roy announced a stakeholder consultation on August 11 at Nabanna to gather views on the new industrial policy.
The policy will focus on time-bound clearances, investor handholding, and reviving industrial incentives.
The government plans to facilitate the resumption of unused land in industrial parks.
Bengal will focus on export-oriented industries to leverage opportunities from India's signed free-trade agreements.
Finance minister Swapan Dasgupta called for reviving training and upskilling programmes for audit and revenue officials, paused since Covid.
