Villagers and families in Hanur and Mysuru blocked the road to Male Mahadeshwara Betta, demanding that the officials who opened fire be brought to the spot and questioned.
Hanur Police registered an FIR against forest officers under Section 103(1) (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after the wife of one deceased lodged a complaint.
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar ordered a magisterial inquiry, while Tamil Nadu parties including DMK and PMK claimed the victims were Tamils, and PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss demanded a CBI probe and Rs 1 crore compensation per family.
