India Rolls Out CNAP for Caller Verification
The Indian government is introducing a new system called CNAP, which will show the name of the person calling you along with their phone number.
This will help you know who is calling before you answer.
The system is being tested now and will be available to most people by early 2026.
It will work on phones from Airtel, Jio, and Vi.
This is to make sure you can tell if a call is from someone you know or a stranger.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is rolling out Calling Name Presentation (CNAP) to verify caller identities.
CNAP will display a verified caller name along with the phone number.
The system was approved in October 2025 and entered live testing last month.
TRAI expects CNAP to be available to most users by March or April 2026.
The service will be available to subscribers of Airtel, Jio, and Vi.
