Anticipatory bail granted to man in dog abuse abduction case

A law student in India saw a video that seemed to show a man hurting dogs.

The student went to the man's house and asked him to stop, because dogs cannot speak up for themselves.

The student says the man got very angry and, with the help of others, took him on a motorcycle to a place called the Auto Market.

There, the student says, he was beaten and threatened, forced to write a statement, and made to urinate on a heating rod while being threatened with electrocution.

The men also demanded Rs 50,000 and made him transfer Rs 1,000 using a phone payment app called GPay.

After the student told his family, they took him to the police, and he filed a complaint.

The accused man then asked the Punjab and Haryana High Court for anticipatory bail, which is permission not to be arrested while the case continues.

The court allowed it because the man joined the investigation and the police said they did not need to question him in custody.

But the court also said that if the man breaks the bail rules, the student can use the law to ask for help.
