Mizoram forms MPSC reform panel; student body calls off strike
A student group called MZP was upset about how the job test system works in a state called Mizoram.
They thought the online application system was not working fairly and that mistakes hurt people trying to get government jobs.
To show they were serious, they stood outside the office of the job test commission and stopped staff from going in.
Because of this, some job tests had to be put on hold.
The state government listened and decided to create a special committee to study the whole job recruitment process.
The committee will look at every step, from filling the form to getting the final result, and try to fix the problems.
After the committee was officially created, the students said they would stop protesting.
The committee has two months to finish its review and give advice to the government on how to make the system fairer for everyone.
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), an influential student organisation in Mizoram, called off its agitation after the state government constituted an MPSC Reform Committee on Wednesday.
The seven-member committee, headed by the Secretary of the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DP&AR), will comprehensively review the state's public recruitment framework and process.
MZP had been picketing the MPSC office since Monday, preventing staff from entering, after earlier demonstrations on August 6 and 7, which led to several recruitment processes being indefinitely postponed.
Key student demands included scrapping the One Time Registration (OTR) system in favour of post-specific forms, additional manpower for the commission, and a one-time offline document submission opportunity for rejected candidates.
The committee, constituted by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, must submit its report to the state government within two months and will review everything from application and registration to examination, verification and results.
