ABVP Workers Clash With Police, Detained During Jharkhand Bandh

Many students in the Indian state of Jharkhand are upset because they believe the tests for government jobs were not fair.

They started protesting on July 25 and have been sitting at a stadium in Ranchi, with a few even refusing to eat.

On Monday, thousands of students walked to the government building, and police sprayed water, fired tear gas, and used sticks to stop them.

Some students got hurt.

The next day, a student group called ABVP marched again, but police stopped them and took some workers away.

The BJP, a big political party, asked the whole state to shut down for a day to support the students.

The students want the government to cancel more exams and want a special investigation agency, the CBI, to check whether the tests were fair.

The government already cancelled three exams but says it will not cancel the graduate-level exam because courts were watching over it.

Instead, it promised to have a retired judge look into the problem and to make future exams safer and more honest.

Some leaders accuse the BJP of using the student protest for politics, while the government says it supports peaceful protest.
