Malda's Rs 900-crore NH-12 Highway Revamp Awaits Centre's Green Light
People in Malda travel on a big road called National Highway 12.
This road is very busy, and sometimes there are traffic jams and accidents.
The government has a plan to make this road bigger and better.
The plan will cost about 900 crore rupees, which is a lot of money.
A new bridge called the Kaliachak flyover will be built so cars can drive over traffic.

South Malda MP Isha Khan Choudhury urged the Union Road Transport Ministry to grant early financial sanction for the Rs 900-crore highway project.
The project covers NH-34 (New NH-12) in Malda district and includes a six-lane Kaliachak flyover.
The Detailed Project Report, with estimates and engineering drawings, was completed on July 23, 2026, and forwarded by NHAI's Project Implementation Unit, Malda, for technical sanction and financial approval.
The project also includes service roads at Kaliachak, Sujapur and Jalalpur, pedestrian underpasses and overpasses, modern drainage, highway lighting and road safety infrastructure.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari assured the MP that administrative sanction will be granted within three months, after which the tender process will begin.
