DMK Backs Legal Protection for Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu
Tamil Nadu has an official song called Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu, which means 'Mother Tamil Salutation.'
The government wants this song to be sung at official and public events.
A leader named Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay brought a special resolution about this in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The DMK party, which is the opposition, said they fully support this idea.
Their representative, Govichezhiyan, said Tamil language and Tamil identity matter to everyone, no matter their politics.
He wants a strong law to protect the song so nobody can change it easily in the future.
He also remembered that in 2021, the government made singing this song mandatory at official functions.
He thanked former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and the Dravidian movement for helping Tamil language rights.
This means the song's special place is being made more secure.
Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay moved a special resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to institutionalise the singing of 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu' at government and public functions.
DMK MLA Govichezhiyan extended the opposition party's full support to the resolution during the Assembly session.
Govichezhiyan called for stronger legal safeguards so the song's provisions cannot be violated or repeatedly changed in the future.
He recalled a December 17, 2021 government order making the singing of 'Tamil Thaai Vaazhthu' mandatory at government functions.
He highlighted former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and the Dravidian movement's contributions to protecting Tamil language rights.
Govichezhiyan said Tamil identity, language and Tamil Nadu's identity are common pride points cutting across political differences.
